City of Eilat

Biography

Salome Zajbert is Eilat Cities Mission officer. She works on her city’s strategy to reach climate neutrality by 2030. To do so, she participates in the writing of the climate city plans and supports the management of the transition teams to instil systemic change and implement the city’s vision. In parallel, she looks for partners and funding to develop meaningful projects in Eilat in the fields of technology, transports, energy, water, nature based solutions, biodiversity, oceans, education and citizen engagement. Salome is also very involved in the environmental education forum gathering NGOs and local initiatives to encourage multi-actor work and collective action. She believes in the importance of co-creating solutions with citizens and is looking to advance participatory governance in Eilat to ensure that residents have a voice in the making of Eilat climate city’s strategy and take part in it. In addition, she works on Eilat’s municipality strategy at COP28 and assists the international affairs department with the organisation of high-level conferences. Finally, Salome’s work and volunteering (beach clean ups, conducting environmental surveys with stakeholders, ShaRED Sea joint transboundary project with Aqaba to reduce the amount of plastic reaching the Red Sea) participates in strengthening regional cooperation as it is a key to encouraging sustainable coastal development, eco-tourism and the support of a fair blue economy that would serve all the neighbouring countries while ensuring marine life protection. She has studied Middle Eastern studies, political science and languages in Sciences Po Paris and INALCO. Salome can speak and write in French, English, Hebrew, Palestinian Arabic, Farsi, and Spanish.
