Biography

Degree in Architecture at the University of Ferrara in 2002 (110/110 cum laude) with a thesis on the restoration of monuments; PhD in Civil Engineering in the same University (2006) on the seismic protection of historic masonry buildings, thanks to which I joined the UNESCO missions for the safeguard of Jerusalem’s built heritage (2006). In 2007 I got a Leonardo grant for vocational training and I moved to The Hague (NL) for a working experience at Geurst&Schultze (2007-2009), where I practiced on the themes of sustainable architecture and complex urban transformations. Back to Italy, in 2010 I launched a freelance activity which in the first years (2010-2014) led me to explore through different fields connected to the sustainability of the built environment, by working on own projects and by activating new collaborations (Dodi&Moss, Bisi&Merkus, Becquerel Electrics s.r.l.) in the fields of architecture, clean energy and urban design. Such experiences brought me to progressively focus my activity on the fields of urban regeneration and territorial development, according to a strategic approach based on the logics of participatory, multi-level and multi-actor processes. In these fields I cooperated with the post-seismic reconstruction processes in Sant’Agostino (Ferrara, 2014-15) and Borbona (Rieti, 2017-18), with the Maccaferri Industrial Group on regeneration processes in Rome and Jesi (2015-16), with CertiMaC consortium (Faenza, 2016-2017) in the drafting of EU projects based on the development of ICT platforms as accelerators of innovation processes (H2020 and Interreg; 3/3 projects funded), with ComPA-FVG (Udine, 2018) as facilitator for the development of strategic programs by local Municipalities, and with the Union of Friuli’s Low-Lands (2020-2021) in the participatory development of a Digital Atlas of Places. Since 2015 I’m cooperating with AUDIS (the Italian association of DISmissed Urban Areas) as responsible of the Training area (2016-2018) and of the Research area (2019-). From 2018 I joined CNR (National Research Council of Italy) as Senior Research Fellow, initially at ITC-CNR (Institute for the Technologies of Construction; 2018-2021), where I held the role of scientific coordinator of EU Projects in the fields of energy efficiency and urban regeneration; then at DIITET-CNR (Engineering, ICT and Technologies for Energy and Transportation Department; 2021-2023), where I’m cooperating on the “Urban Intelligence” strategic project with roles of support to the management and coordination activities in the pilot cities of Matera and Catania. From Sept 2023 I’m full time Technologist at DIITET-CNR.
