FREELAND Project
FREELAND is an Erasmus+ project funded by the European Union through the Italian Erasmus representative INDIRE (National Institute of Documentation, Innovation and Educational Research).
The main objective of the project is the creation of the FREELAND methodology, based on integrated STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) approach in the field of urban regeneration. It will merge formal and non-formal learning to enhance the social and civic engagement of students and citizens. FREELAND is focussed on the urban regeneration of neglected areas, that may be potentially problematic for local communities, through outdoor laboratories and the design of urban regeneration projects that increase students’ STEAM competences and critical thinking, but also contribute to improve quality of life in the city.
Beside the participatory development the methodology and learning modules, FREELAND will create a digital platform to allow the sharing of knowledge and collaboration among schools in urban regeneration projects. In addition, a handbook aimed at European schools and stakeholders will be produced to exploit the project outcomes and several actions will be organised to disseminate project results.
The project is also based on a strong cooperation with the local administrations, that will support the design of urban regeneration experiences in the partner schools.
The Citizen Survey
FREELAND has carried out a survey dedicated to understand citizens’ interest and knowledge in the topic of urban regeneration and climate change issues, but also their willingness in working together with schools and local communities in urban regeneration activities aiming at improving quality of life in the city.
The survey insights will contribute to the design of the FREELAND learning methodology.
